Come journey with us!
Some folks might ask: “Why should we study the bible?” Beloved, I could talk to you about that all day and all night. But instead, I’ll cut right to the chase. The Apostle Paul tells his young protégée, Timothy: “All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy
3:16-17, NRSV) I think that about sums it up. You want to grow as a Christian and have a stronger witness? Then study the bible as intently as you can.
Remember, study of the scriptures is one of the four legs that support our “table” of discipleship - the other three being prayer, worship, and outreach. And they are all connected. For more effective outreach, the bible is the surest guide. Scripture explored through preaching and hymn singing makes our worship truly meaningful. And when we pray about what we study in the bible, our minds and hearts are opened to its meaning for our lives. Will you agree with everything that’s presented at bible study when you join us? No, and you shouldn’t. Diversity of thought is one of God’s greatest gifts to humanity.
What will happen when you join us at bible study? You will be challenged, you will learn, and you will be blessed in the process! So come study with us. You will be grateful that you did. The bible study opportunities for the Fall are: Study of Romans at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Tuesdays, starting Sept. 7th. And study of 1 John at 10:30 am on Thursdays, starting on September 30th. Much of what we profess theologically comes form Paul’s letter to the Romans. And the Letters of John are writings of courage and hope in Christ addressed to a community that is feeling pulled by outside – and largely negative – influences. How do you sign up? Put your name on the sheets on the Narthex table. See you in church!
Grace and peace,
Bryan
